Staffer About Me

Handsome, debonair, and modest as all get-out, I'm a life-long, self confessed music addict...here at WJZF to play you the music you will not hear anywhere else ! I have been corrupting listeners far and wide for many years now. Got my start in radio at WSDH on Cape Cod back in the mid 80's, and then hosted the very popular "Nighthawks" on WOMR in Provincetown Mass on Cape Cod for many, many years after that. Since moving back to Maine in 2005, I have worked at WMPG iN Portland, and am now in my 6th season here at WJZF with "Mystery Train " ( the show was to have been called "Nighthawks" again, but one of the repeat broadcasts was origionally Saturday mornings, so a new name was needed....just a little trivia for y'all...)

I always lean towards my personal favorites (Beatles, Stones, Dylan, Beach Boys) but dig deep into all other genres as well. On Mystery Train you'll hear the best of the best.
A real musical stew that will seep into your bones and get you hooked before you know it!

In a typical episode of Mystery Train, you could hear the following artists:

George Harrison, Richard Thompson, The Band, Ravi Shankar, The Clash, Capt Beefheart,The Pogues (God bless Shane Macgowan ! ) ,Nick Lowe, Carlene Carter, Dave Edmunds,Leonard Cohen, Marianne Faithfull, Tom Waits , Johnny Cash, Insane garage band tracks from one hit wonders of the 60's, Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, really twisted Rockabilly from the 1950's, British Invasion from the early 60's, Miles Davis, The White Stripes,John Coltrane, Liam Clancy ( yay ! ), Neil Young, Peter Wolf,
Van Morrison, Tom Rush, The Ramones, the Kinks, Jerry Lee Lewis, Serge Gainsbourg, Dennis Wilson , Keith Richards & his X-Pensive Winos, bizarro 50's R&B, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Sandy Denny, and oh so much more !

We also are known from time to time to dedicate our entire three hour program to a single artist-- tune in for our one-of-a-kind specials featuring The Band, The Rolling Stones,The Beatles,Bob Dylan,or Leonard Cohen. Full of obscure and unreleased material! These specials draw listeners from around the world.

The songs you know and love, the rare tracks, and the unreleased tracks you'll never hear anywhere else ! All that, along with the witty ( or is it witless ? ) commentary from yours truly and you have yourself one heck of an entertaining night of radio !

As always, your emails are welcomed ! We love to hear from our listeners--if you have comments, requests, or ideas for upcoming shows,e-mail me at mysterytrainradio@yahoo.com. Tune into Mystery Train and see what listeners from all over the USA, Europe, Canada and as far away as New Zealand already know-- this is radio like it should be !!!

Be one of the hippest people in your neighborhood and become a Mystery Train supporter !
We depend entirely upon the generosity of our listeners to keep us on the air--
Please send a donation in any amount to:

So, climb onboard the train, and bring your friends ! Next stop, great music !

Thanks for listening--we'll see you around the mike !

Gordon was involved in radio at a very young age, when at 11 he first went dump picking and found enough parts of old electronic items to make his first radio receiver. Since then, he's been involved in electronics, music, AM and FM radio during college, even had a ham license for a while, and worked in TV.

These days he's primarily doing Information Technology work on PCs, servers, and networks, and playing in a classic rock band somewhere "up north" (Pittsfield area, if you care). And he still checks in here and there, maintains the WJZF web site, works on our electronics and computers systems and bailing out the staff when they can't find the "any" key... ;-)

I love country music and being a dj at WJZF is loads of fun. Uncle Ed and I sure have a blast recording many shows. We are goofy and have fun. We just hope that you get a few laughs and of course enjoy the music we play too! Uncle Ed has a friend named Ethel. She sure has been an effect on the show. She really loves to come into the studio and raid the recording controls. ETHELLLLLLL!!

Please enjoy the show. Hopefully your gut hurts from laughter.

~ WJZF and staff are very excited about the ability to air phone calls!!! If any of you would like to call the studio, we would love to put you on the air. Whether requests for songs, talking about music or whatever is on your mind, we would love to hear from our listeners! Our studio line is 207-669-4474. ~

Again, thanks for tuning into WJZF!!! We love our listeners!!!! :o)

The Maine Show
The Maine Show airs Thursday evenings 6 - 8 p.m.

I am a Limington resident and find I can enjoy listening to WJZF best on-line using the Live365 option.

The show focuses a lot on the wonderful folks here in this state that give so much of themselves to benefit other! Your requests to get your organization's announcements on the air is what a community radio station is all about.

All you nned to do is email me at TheMaineShow@WJZF.Org . We'll even supply the electronic thumbtacks to get the posting on our broadcast bulletin board.

Devoting a few hours a week to WJZF is a small price to pay for the great service this station has done in the past for organizations I care deeply for. I thank all of you for allowing me to come into your homes, cars, and yes, even your computer!

Until we get together on the next show, be safe!
